Marian Tompson,

Marian Tompson is one of the founders of La Leche League International and was its president for the first 24 years. Wife of the late Clement Tompson, she is the mother of seven children, grandmother to 16 and great grandmother to four, so far. Marian developed LLLI's Continuing Education breastfeeding seminars for physicians which have been held annually since 1973. She was the first editor of what is now New Beginnings and has traveled the world speaking up for breastfeeding mothers and babies. In 2001 Marian founded AnotherLook, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to gathering information, raising critical questions, and stimulating needed research about breastfeeding in the context of HIV and AIDS.

 

Lu Hanessian is a veteran TV and newspaper journalist, author of the acclaimed memoir "Let the Baby Drive: Navigating the Road of New Motherhood (St. Martin's Press), former NBC anchor and Discovery Health Channel host of "Make Room for Baby," weekly newspaper parenting columnist of "Driving Lessons" for The Courier Post in Philadelphia, parent-child advocate, and national speaker. She leads unique parenting workshops, and is currently working on her second book. She is also the composer/lyricist of a CD for new mothers called "Welcome Home, My Child." Tammy Veatch, LLLL, RALA is the Regional Administrator of Leader Accreditation for the Southern Region of the Eastern United States. Tammy and her husband, Brian, have two boys, Stephen and Benjamin, who are second generation LLL Veatch babies. Tammy was accredited in 1998 and actively leads meetings in Lutz, FL. She has served the Leader Accreditation Department for seven years.

 

Leanne Ely is the author of the best-selling Saving Dinner series (Ballantine). According to Woman's Day Magazine, she is the expert on family cooking. Leanne hosts her own radio program, The FLY Show, with Marla Cilley (the FlyLady) every Thursday on World Talk Radio. Her syndicated column, The Dinner Diva is in over 200 newspapers nationwide. She is the family lifestyle columnist for eDiets.com and the “Food for Thought” columnist for the popular, FlyLady.net. She has been featured nationally on television, in magazines and newspapers throughout the country and is a sought after speaker. Leanne is a mother to teenagers and lives in North Carolina with her husband and children.

Sandy Jones, MA is the author of “Great Expectations: Your All-in-One Resource for Pregnancy and Childbirth;” “Great Expectations: Baby's First Year” written with her daughter, Marcie, a mother herself as well as eight other pregnancy and parenting books, including “Crying Baby, Sleepless Nights.” Over 200 of her articles on babies and baby gear have been published in national magazines. Sandy has a MA in psychology and has done doctoral-level work in human development. Marcie and Sandy Jones answer pregnancy questions on www.HappyHealthyPregnancy.com, and their books can be found on www.BarnesandNoble.com.

 

Dr. Naomi Baumslag, co-author of “Milk, Money and Madness and A Woman’s Guide To Yeast Infections,” is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at Georgetown University Medical School, as well as the President of the Women’s International Public Health Network. She is a recognized expert in public health, has been advisor to many international agencies, and is a member of several human rights committees. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, she obtained her MD at the Witwatersr and University Medical School Johannesburg and an MPH at Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health, Baltimore. Dr Baumslag worked in clinics in South African townships and in the USA for underserved populations. She has written more than 20 books and over 150 journal articles. She has extensively researched medical ethics and the relationship of heath professionals and human rights both during the holocaust and in apartheid South Africa. Dr Baumslag lectures widely both nationally and internationally. She lives in Maryland with her husband, Ralph.

La Leche League began 50 years ago at a picnic. In this special anniversary year it only seems fitting that we would begin our annual conference with a picnic as well! Join us at 5:00 pm for a family picnic at Picnic shelter #6. Bring your own picnic or purchase a BBQ plate. BBQ plates include your choice of BBQ pork or chicken, beans, slaw, banana pudding, tea and water. Costs are $9 adult and $5 child (6 - 12), $3 child (2 - 5), children under 2 are free.

Healing the Trauma of Birth: An intimate sharing circle for women who found themselves injured, aggrieved or disempowered by their birth experiences. Who Should Register?

All conference participants must register; including speakers, exhibitors, mothers, fathers, caregivers, and children ages three and older. Mail completed registration form and a check or money order made payable to:

Registrations postmarked after March 15, 2007 must include a $20 late fee. After April 1, 2007 do not mail registration form, please bring your completed registration form with you to the conference and register on-site.

On-site registration is available at the conference; space is limited and some topic choices may be unavailable. Early registration is recommended to ensure your first topic choices.

Refund Policy
